Inquest into the Death of Gregory Ritchie Announced

Dr. Louise McNaughton-Filion, Regional Supervising Coroner, Ottawa Region, Ottawa Office, has announced that an inquest will be held into the death of Gregory Ritchie.

Mr. Ritchie, a 30-year-old Indigenous man, died on January 31, 2019, following an interaction with officers from the Ottawa Police Service on the same day. An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Ritchie’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.
