Date Announced for the Inquest into the Death of Regis Paquet

Dr. Richard Wells, Regional Supervising Coroner, Toronto West Region, announced today that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Regis Paquet. The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. Dr. David Cameron will be the presiding officer. Roger Shallow and Kate Forget will be the inquest counsel.

Ms. Paquet, a 29-year-old Canadian woman of Ukrainian, Black and Indigenous ancestry from Nova Scotia, died on May 27, 2020, following an interaction with officers from the Toronto Police Service on the same day.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Ms. Paquet’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.

The inquest is expected to last 14 days and hear from approximately 15 witnesses.
