Civil Remedies Grant Program

The Ontario government is allocating nearly $5 million in cash and proceeds seized from criminals to help 26 law enforcement agencies and community and Indigenous organizations fight crime and strengthen public safety across the province. Through the 2026-28 Civil Remedies Grant Program, each project is eligible to receive up to $200,000 over two years.

The following organizations are receiving funding through this program for 2026-28:

Anishinabek Police Service $200,000
Project Aakede’ewin (Bravery)

Anishinabek Police Service investigators will receive specialized training to help them identify high-risk intimate partner violence victims in 16 First Nation communities. A service navigator will also be hired to work with victims, facilitate referrals and follow-ups.

Barrie Police Service $200,000
Project Bright Futures

The Barrie Police Service and community organizations will increase access to free recreational programming for at-risk youth. Community partners will also receive crisis intervention and behaviour management training to help protect vulnerable, at-risk youth from crime and victimization.

BridgeNorth $200,000
LifeEdge Program

Funding will allow more survivors to join LifeEdge, a survivor-led, trauma-informed day program for youth aged 12 to 19 who are being sex trafficked or sexually exploited.

Cedar Centre $200,000
Child and Youth Advocate Program

York Region’s new Child and Youth Advocacy Centre will receive funding to establish a child and youth advocacy team to manage investigations and support prosecution decision making.

Youth Voices for Respect and Prevention

Youth peer educators will receive training to lead workshops focused on healthy relationships and intimate partner violence prevention, including how to safely support peers, access resources and build bystander skills.

Safeguarding Seniors in the Age of AI

Funding will help increase seniors’ digital safety through specialized training for service providers as well as community consultations, education and research to identify risks to seniors and increase their safety online.

Love Starts with Us

A liaison worker/counsellor will be hired to work as a crisis counsellor, resource development worker and community educator to support missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit and gender-diverse families who are navigating the justice system.

Garden River First Nation $200,000
Gashkigwaadewin "Circle of Protection"

Funding will expand access to educational activities and prevention groups for at-risk Indigenous youth. It will also increase supports for individuals experiencing intimate partner violence or exploitation in Garden River First Nation.

Hamilton Police Service $200,000
Intimate Partner Violence Support Program

An intimate partner violence support coordinator will be hired to work with the Hamilton Police Service to help survivors access supports and prevent the escalation of violence through education, safety planning and risk assessment.

Highland Shores Children’s Aid Society $200,000
Pathways to Safety: Preventing Victimization and Violence among At-Risk Youth

Applied behaviour analysis specialists will be hired to provide trauma-informed supports to children and youth who have experienced – or are at risk of – violence, exploitation or family breakdown.

Jewish Family and Child Service of Greater Toronto $10,602
Enhancing Training Capacity to Support Victims of Family Violence: Integrating Evidence-based Modalities and Evaluating Impact of Implementation

The Strength at Home program helps reduce abusive behaviours in intimate partner and family violence offenders as well as enhance safety and wellness for victims. Funding will support training for 13 new staff members and the delivery of group-based prevention programming within the existing Family Violence and Relationship Wellness Program.

Funding will enhance the existing Healthy Relationships Program that targets youth aged 14 to 24 and justice-involved men who have been violent in relationships.

Highway 17 Rapid Response Initiative

Victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation in Indigenous and remote communities along Highway 17 will benefit from increased access to trauma-informed and culturally grounded supports, guided by Elders and survivors.

Safe Trails

A pilot program will offer trauma-informed adventure therapy for youth aged 10 to 21 who live in rural communities and have been impacted by intimate partner violence. Activities include outdoor retreats, weekly meetups, family days and educational workshops on healthy relationships.

Culturally Supportive Counselling for Newcomer and Refugee Victims of Gender-Based Violence

Funding will expand an existing program that provides newcomers who are victims of gender-based violence, including human trafficking, with culturally sensitive, trauma-informed counselling and education on rights and outreach/settlement services.

Digital Safety Squad: Youth Empowerment and Online Crime Prevention Initiative

The Digital Safety Squad will promote digital literacy for youth and awareness around cyberbullying, exploitation and sextortion through workshops, parent education sessions and youth-led awareness campaigns.

A crisis counsellor will be hired to deliver on-site support to victims of intimate partner and family violence, hate crimes and gun and gang violence. Funding will also support healing gatherings, outreach events and safety responses in Ottawa communities.

Community workshops will help teach seniors and elders in rural, remote, northern and Indigenous communities across Ontario digital literacy skills, including how to recognize online scams, phishing, fraud and unsafe digital behaviour.

Funding will create community-based, trauma-informed programs for newcomers, refugees, children and youth to help build inclusion, resilience and cultural understanding.

Safe Seniors Counselling & Digital Empowerment Program

Older adults will be protected from financial, emotional and technological abuse through counselling and digital safety programming that helps seniors recognize, prevent and report unlawful activity.

Settlement Assistance and Family Support Services $195,000
The Shield Program

This early intervention pilot program will empower racialized, Indigenous, newcomer and LGBTQ2SD+ girls (aged 10 to 18) who are at risk of human trafficking. It will provide counselling, legal and housing supports and educational sessions to bring awareness to activities that could lead to victimization.

Centralized Bail Compliance Unit: Choices and Changes

A Centralized Bail Compliance Unit will be established to focus on high-risk offenders (including those charged with intimate partner violence, firearms offences and human trafficking) to reduce revictimization and prevent reoffending. Funding will support specialized officer training and partnerships to ensure consistent bail compliance across all Toronto Police divisions and units.

Light on the Hill Pilot Project

This project will take a culturally appropriate approach to working with the local Mennonite and low-German-speaking population on cases of intimate partner violence and sexual assault, including creating an awareness campaign to support this population and dedicating a police constable to work on these types of crimes.

Roots of Resilience - Indigenous Youth Healing and Prevention Hub

Funding will support an Indigenous-led, youth-focused and trauma-informed prevention program to increase access to supports for Indigenous youth at risk of human trafficking, intimate partner violence and racial bullying.

Additional anti-human trafficking counsellors will be hired and trained to expand a pilot project where counsellors work directly with the Vice Unit of Peel Regional Police to increase access to trauma-informed case management for human trafficking survivors.

Through the System: A Survivor-Led Initiative to Strengthen Ontario’s Justice Response to Human Trafficking

This program will provide survivor-created training, including an analysis of human trafficking patterns, to over 300 justice professionals.
