How to respond if a tenant filed at the LTB

This page is a public educational walkthrough. It is not a retainer, a court form, or a promise about your result. For legal advice, you should contact an appropriate Lawyer or Paralegal specializing in the area of law you need assistance with.

  1. Read the form number on the tenant package

T2 is often tenant rights. T6 is often maintenance. Other T forms exist. The form number is the issue the Board will hear. An L1 you filed earlier is a different file.

  2. Read the hearing date and how to file a response

The notice tells you where to send documents and whether the hearing is virtual. Missing the date can mean the member only hears the tenant’s evidence.

  3. Collect the records that answer that form

Leases, rent ledgers, work-order photos, contractor invoices, messages about repairs, and any notices you served. Label files by date.

  4. Do not lock anyone out because a T2 was filed

A tenant application is not permission to end the tenancy by self-help. If you also want to end the tenancy, that is usually a separate notice and application path.

  5. Official forms stay on Tribunals Ontario

Use the current response and evidence rules on the LTB filing page linked from this site’s form box.
