How to report a workplace injury in Ontario

1. Get medical care first

   Then tell the employer what happened, when, and where. Write it down.

2. Most workplace injuries go through WSIB

   That is a separate system from an ESA wage claim. Employers and workers have reporting duties and short deadlines. Use the current WSIB forms on the WSIB site, not a court form.

3. OHSA still applies to the safety duty

   A serious injury or a refusal of unsafe work can also involve the Ministry of Labour inspectorate. That is not WSIB benefits.

4. If the employer says “do not report”

   The reporting duty is statutory. This page does not file the form for you, but hiding the injury often makes the later claim harder.
