Where to file an immigration application

This page is a public educational walkthrough. It is not a retainer, a court form, or a promise about your result. For legal advice, you should contact an appropriate Lawyer or Paralegal specializing in the area of law you need assistance with.

  1. Know The Law hosts statute text, not IRCC accounts

Permanent residence, work permits, study permits and citizenship applications are filed through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada systems.

  2. Refugee claims use a different door

The Immigration and Refugee Board process is not a Know The Law form download.

  3. Use this site to read IRPA and the Citizenship Act

Then follow the official IRCC or IRB checklist for the form numbers that apply to that application.

  4. A consultant or lawyer, if you use one, must be authorized

This site does not file for you and does not become your representative by you reading a page.

  5. Deadlines on IRCC letters are the ones that matter

Print the letter. Our statute page does not replace that letter.
