How to file documents online in Ontario courts

1. Filing and uploading are two different jobs

   Issuing or filing a document goes through Justice Services Online, Family Submissions Online or the Ontario Courts Public Portal. Case Center is where those filed documents are then placed so the judge can read them.

2. Family files: use the current MAG family filing portal unless you cannot

   Self-represented people may still file at the counter for accessibility reasons or when the event is only a few days away. Toronto OCJ family has a Public Portal practice direction.

3. Name the file the way the practice direction requires

   SCJ family directions include a document naming protocol and tell you which Case Center bundle gets pleadings versus motion materials.

4. Confirmations still have a clock

   Family motions and conferences often need Form 14C or Form 17F by 2 p.m. three business days before the date. Missing confirmation can cancel the date.

5. Case Center help is a MAG phone line

   1-800-980-4962 option 4 or info.CaseCenter@ontario.ca. Court staff upload for many self-represented people outside Toronto.

6. Appeals use the Court of Appeal portal

   Appeals are not filed through the family portal. Use the Court of Appeal guide on this site.
