How to raise a school-board complaint in Ontario

This page is a public educational walkthrough. It is not a retainer, a court form, or a promise about your result. For legal advice, you should contact an appropriate Lawyer or Paralegal specializing in the area of law you need assistance with.

  1. Start with the school and the board policy

Most education problems have an internal path. The Education Act pages on this site do not replace that policy.

  2. Write the facts, the date, and what you want changed

A grade, a placement, a safety issue, or a policy decision. Attach the emails you already sent.

  3. Use the board’s published complaint or appeal form if it has one

    A social-media post is not a filing.

  4. Keep copies and calendar any review date the board gives you

Some special-education paths have their own tribunals.

  5. A court application is a last and different process

Do not skip the board file unless a lawyer tells you that is required.
